Career Services and Development

One of the biggest resource’s a student has during their college experience is the Career Services office. It can arguably be said that the whole purpose of college is to assist students in finding a career that will lead to a fulfilling happy future. Within Career Services there are a variety of resources available to students such as, general career information, different career options, internships, resume and interview tips and much more. These resources allow students to learn about their own talents, skills and interests. Additionally, Career Service staff can help mentor and guide students through their career pursuit, set goals and make a student stand out in the job market. We highly recommend students take advantage of this resource and schedule an appointment with their Career Services office. Your career services office has several connections and opportunities that can be extremely beneficial allowing you to build your career and establish meaningful relationships.

Career Opportunities

All colleges have databases, which contain different jobs and opportunities, and this can help make a students job search much easier. Through an appointment with a career counselor students can figure out what internships are the best fit and which ones they have the best chance at. Additionally, career counselors can help a student by tailoring their resume to the specific position, help write a solid cover letter and practice mock interviews.

Workshops and Events

Career Services often have events and workshops that help students with personal and professional development. For example, there can be workshops on the following topics; how to sell and market yourself, how to build a resume, networking events and employer recruiting events. Not only do these workshops and events assist students in practicing professional and personal skills, but also enables them to network with their peers and employees.

Coaching and Mentorship

Having someone mentor and coach you can be rewarding both professionally and personally. Mentors can be there during a time of struggle, give you advice from experience and help you strategically plan out your career. Mentors can help inspire, give you new skills and can be a tremendous source for information in your career. Many successful people have had mentors and contribute some of their success to their mentors, its something that’s very important and that students should consider.
